On the 6th of June, we came across a heartfelt plea for assistance on the KZN Valley Dogs page. A local resident was seeking help for his dog, Harriet (affectionately known as Harry), who had been tragically burnt with boiling water. This heartbreaking incident occurred as Harry, like many dogs in the area who are not fenced in, was scavenging for food. Sadly, some community members resort to throwing boiling water at the dogs to chase them away.
Harry’s owner couldn’t afford the vet bills for his treatment, which had already amounted to R5 171. After receiving all the necessary vet care, the bill was R8 236. Without hesitation, KDogsz stepped in and covered Harry’s vet bill with a donation of R8 500. This amount was paid directly to Hillcrest Veterinary Hospital. We are pleased to report that Harry is now back home with his owner, recovering well, thanks to KZN Valley Dogs.
However, this incident brought to light a troubling issue. KZN Valley Dogs discovered other dogs in the area who had also been burnt with boiling water. The dedicated volunteers at KZN Valley Dogs must tread carefully to ensure their own safety while attending to these matters as they are reported.
We commend KZN Valley Dogs for their unwavering dedication to rescuing and caring for animals in need, despite the challenges they face. It’s essential for us to support such efforts to create a safer and more compassionate community for our furry friends.
